# Archive Buddy

> Archive Buddy is a specialist AI assistant workspace for professional archivists and people working with archival collections. It is not a custom-trained AI model. It is an archival software layer powered by configurable foundation model providers.

Archive Buddy supports archival description, appraisal, preservation, access questions, researcher responses, reference interviews, rights and sensitivity review, archive administration, digitisation planning, saved conversations, and optional connector workflows such as Google Calendar, Microsoft Workspace, and catalogue integrations (ArchivesSpace, AtoM). It features file and image attachments, voice dictation, IIIF support, retention review tools, ISAD(G) to RiC conversion, DROID/Siegfried CSV preservation-risk assessment, review-first sensitivity redaction of pasted transcripts, and a conservative copyright/public-domain questionnaire.

The product is designed to preserve professional archival judgement. It helps with wording while archivists stay in charge of the facts and decisions; avoids inventing facts about records, collections, people, dates, or provenance; and handles sensitive, legal, copyright, privacy, and access matters cautiously.
